Nairobi Regional Commander George Sedah has announced the recovery of 77 mobile phones and Sh614,000 in cash, suspected to have been used to purchase stolen phones from snatchers.

The total value of the recovered items is estimated at around Sh3 million.

This is part of a continuing police operation aimed at dismantling phone theft syndicates and their networks in Nairobi's Central Business District.

Speaking from the Nairobi Regional Police Headquarters, Commander Sedah explained that the operation focused on Munyu Street and Mfangano Street, where the recovered cash was seized from locations known for harboring phone receivers.

Six suspects have been arrested so far, but regional commander clarified that they are not the phone snatchers themselves. instead, they are receiver's owners of mobile phone repair shops believed to be handling stolen phones.

"We are also verifying whether repair shops in the CBD have the legal permits to operate, the operation is ongoing, and our focus remains in apprehending the actual snatchers," Sedah said.

He also called on the public to the public to support the ongoing efforts by sharing any useful information with the authorities.

Victims of the phone theft have been advised to visit the Nairobi Regional Police Headquarters to identify and reclaim their recovered devices.
