Senator Khalwale calls on CS Murkomen to resign over rising insecurity

He also brought attention to the shooting incident involving Kasipul MP Charles Ong’ondo Were, which occurred in Nairobi.
Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale on Saturday, May 3, 2025, urged Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen to resign if he could not effectively address the rising insecurity in the country.
Speaking during the funeral of a teacher who had been fatally attacked after being robbed of more than Sh200,000, the Senator decried what he described as an alarming spike in criminal incidents nationwide.
Khalwale, while addressing the issue of insecurity, cited a recent attack in the northeastern region where five quarry workers lost their lives and two others were injured in an ambush believed to have been carried out by al-Shabaab militants.
He also brought attention to the shooting incident involving Kasipul MP Charles Ong’ondo Were, which occurred in Nairobi shortly after he left the National Assembly Chambers.
"CS Murkomen, if you cannot assure us security, then you are not fit to be Minister of Internal Security. I have nothing against CS Murkomen, but he has a job and a responsibility of telling us what is happening," Boni Khalwale stated.
"Here in Mumias, a teacher was killed; in Mandera, the boys working in quarries are being killed; and if you come to Nairobi, MP Charles Ong’ondo Were was killed.
"Murkomen, where is your police? Where is your security? If you can’t go home! We want somebody else to do that work," the Kakamega senator insisted.
Khalwale’s remarks followed shortly after Baringo North MP Joseph Makilap called on the President to dismiss CS Murkomen in response to a recent banditry incident in Baringo North.
Makilap criticized the Cabinet Secretary for making what he described as disrespectful remarks towards the local community during his visit to the region on Friday, May 2, 2025.
"My people in Baringo North have never wronged anyone. The one causing us problems and disrespecting us now is this incompetent minister of yours. President, we ask you to fire him. He is the problem in your government. Instead of solving the issue of security, you (Murkomen) are busy on social media and inciting people," said Makilap.
"Us, the Arror residents, we have rejected this guy called Murkomen. He is the problem in the Kenya Kwanza administration. The rest of us worked hard to get this government."
Murkomen had yet to issue a response to the allegations raised by Khalwale and Makilap by the time of this reporting.
