Wamuchomba speaks after removal from key house committee

Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba says a decision to remove her as the chairperson of the National Assembly's Constitutional Oversight Committee (CIOC) was driven by political motives.
Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba says a decision to remove her as the chairperson of the National Assembly's Constitutional Oversight Committee (CIOC) was driven by political motives.
The outspoken legislator, an ally of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, said that her resistance to contentious finance bills led to her ouster.
Speaking after her removal, Wamuchomba stated that she had anticipated the move, as her refusal to support certain financial legislations unsettled some of her colleagues.
"I stand by my principles; I did my job with integrity. I knew my position against exploitative and questionable finance bills made some people uneasy," she remarked.
She also suggested that her scrutiny of the National Land Commission (NLC) may have contributed to her dismissal from the role.
"I played an oversight role over the National Land Commission and deliberately stopped them from grabbing 400 acres of land in Kiambu. The land-grabbing syndicate is now activated," posted the MP on her X account.
Despite her removal from office, she says she remains steadfast in her pursuit of justice.
âThey may wield influence now, but their ill-gotten wealth wonât go unchallenged. Itâs just a matter of time,â she asserted.
She also took aim at the current political climate, arguing that genuine and principled leaders face significant hurdles when trying to serve under the present administration.
Wamuchomba is among several allies of Gachagua who were stripped of leadership roles in parliamentary committees following President William Rutoâs political truce with ODM leader Raila Odinga.
