The government has made changes in the Principal Secretary positions, shifting key officials in a move announced on Thursday.

Basic Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang has been transferred to the Immigration and Citizen Services docket, while Julius Bitok takes over as the new PS for Basic Education.

Kipsang had served as the PS for Basic Education since 2022 before his reassignment. Bitok, who had been overseeing Immigration and Citizen Services, will now handle matters in the education sector.

According to a statement shared by Head of Public Service Felix Koskei, the reshuffle aims to address challenges within Kenya’s social fabric and tap into opportunities in emerging economic sectors.

"These changes are driven by the need to harness the opportunities within emerging sectors of the economy, as well as to address challenges affecting Kenya's social fabric," the statement read.

The government added that the adjustments are meant to enhance the execution of its Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).

"Collectively, the changes seek to further accelerate the implementation of the Administration's seminal socio-economic blueprint, the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA)," the notice stated.
