His return to communication comes after days of public concern and questions about his whereabouts.

Ndiang'ui Kinyagia, who vanished last week under unclear circumstances, has finally made contact with his family and assured them that he is safe, healthy and in good condition.

His return to communication comes after days of public concern and questions about his whereabouts.

In a statement shared on Thursday morning, family advocate Wahome Thuku said Kinyagia reached out to a relative on Tuesday evening from a location he did not disclose.

He informed the family that he had gone into hiding after learning that detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations were looking for him over unspecified criminal matters.

“Kinyagia indicated to the family member that he had hidden temporarily for fear of his life upon learning that DCI officers were looking for him over unknown criminal allegations,” the statement said.

He has now said he is prepared to report to the DCI and appear before court once there is assurance that his safety is protected. “Ndiangui has indicated that he is ready and willing to present himself to the DCI and to be presented before any court of law when his safety and security is guaranteed,” Thuku added.

Following this development, the family has advised Kinyagia to present himself before the High Court at Milimani today, Thursday, July 3, 2025, at 11am. The Law Society of Kenya has also been notified and is expected to provide legal support and present the matter in court.

The family further reminded the public that while Kinyagia was missing, DCI officers forced entry into his residence in Kinoo and left with several items. The incident was formally reported at Kinoo Police Station.

“The family of Kinyagia wishes to thank all Kenyans both in Kenya and abroad for the support you have accorded them throughout this trying moment,” the statement said. “It’s our hope and prayer that justice will prevail in this matter.”

Meanwhile, the Director of Criminal Investigations, Mohamed Amin, has been directed to appear before the High Court today. The order was issued by Justice Chacha Mwita, who noted that earlier instructions requiring the production of Kinyagia alive or dead had not been obeyed.

Amin is expected in court at the same time Kinyagia is scheduled to appear 11am.
