Bribe offer exposes failed murder plot on 82-year-old patient in Kisii

Police report that a medical intern was offered a bribe of Sh10,000 by people sent by the nurse to inject the elderly man with a dangerous, unknown drug.
A community health nurse from Kisii County and two others have been arrested following a failed attempt to kill an 82-year-old patient at Bosongo Hospital in Kitutu Central.
Police report that a medical intern was offered a bribe of Sh10,000 by people sent by the nurse to inject the elderly man with a dangerous, unknown drug.
Jacob Moseti, the victim, lies weak in the male ward of Bosongo Hospital, reflecting quietly over his Bible.
On Tuesday, two young men came to the ward carrying an insulin syringe filled with an unidentified drug.
They approached a medical intern, promising him Sh10,000 to record himself injecting Moseti with the syringe.
The intern, troubled by the request, said, "Nikawauliza sasa mtajuaje nimemdunga hii dawa, si muende? Na mmoja nikamwambia sasa juu hamtaki kuenda, wacha basi nichukue simu niende kurecord alafu ndio nirudi mnipee hio pesa."
Translation: "I asked them, 'How would you know I had injected him with this medicine? Why won't you leave?' And I told one of them that 'if you don't want to go, let me take the phone and record it (the injection), then when I come back, give me the money'''.
This hesitation prevented the attempt.
According to Monica Ngeresa, the Nursing In Charge at Bosongo Hospital, "They wanted to inject the medication by themselves that time in the morning, but due to hospital staff always wearing uniforms. They had to find someone else because the patient could have asked who they were."
The two men were arrested and led police to a 25-year-old nurse, Fiona Mogere, who allegedly provided the syringe.
Fiona was also arrested and is under suicide watch at Nyanchwa Police Station after being found in possession of pesticide, suspected to be for self-harm.
Moseti believes the plot may be linked to a family dispute where some relatives accused him of witchcraft. Police have detained the suspects for 14 days as investigations continue.
Meanwhile, Moseti remains grateful to be alive, clutching his Bible and thankful to have escaped death.
