The students barricaded the road with rocks, protesting over the death of a second-year student at the institution who was killed in a suspected hit-and-run incident.
The death was confirmed by the Multimedia University Dean of Students Dr. Obonyo Muga.
“We regret to announce the untimely demise of the late Lameck Mwangi Wambui which occurred on Sunday 9 March 2025 after a fatal road accident,” read a statement.
According to Obonyo, the late Lameck was a second year student pursuing Bachelor of Arts in the Faculty of Social Sciences and Technology and hailed from in Mwea West District, Kirinyaga County.
Obonyo said Lameck's burial date will be announced later.
In September 2024, Multimedia University students also blocked the Magadi Road protesting what they termed as the university administration’s failure to heed their demand to restore water inside their hostels.
During the demonstrations, the students barricaded the highway forcing motorists to seek alternative routes.
