A group of unruly youth engaged in widespread theft and looting in broad daylight near the National Youth Service (NYS) headquarters, close to Mathare slums along Thika Road.

Videos seen on social media platform X showed the group storming through the streets, forcefully boarding public transport, robbing commuters, and ransacking private vehicles caught in traffic.

The youths were said to have turned up to listen to President William Ruto who was on Tuesday touring Ruaraka and Mathare. However, the youths looted businesses and mugged innocent people after the president's events in the areas.

In response, some businesses were forced to shut their doors in an attempt to safeguard their staff and customers.

Eyewitnesses claimed that the disorder unfolded in full view of police officers, who reportedly failed to take action.

"Some rogue youths are attacking private cars along Thika Road, snatching phones from unsuspecting people, yet the police are just standing by," X user Madoka Kibet lamented.

The incident has sparked outrage on social media, with the #ThikaRoad trending as Kenyans express concerns over the growing insecurity.
