INFOGRAPHIC: World's strongest earthquakes since 1900
In Summary

several other major earthquakes have shaken the Pacific Ring of Fire, a region known for intense geological activity.

The world’s strongest recorded earthquake since 1900 struck Valdivia, Chile, in 1960 with a magnitude of 9.5, followed by powerful quakes in Alaska (1964), the Indian Ocean (2004), Japan’s Tōhoku region (2011), and Severo-Kurilsk, Russia (1952), all measuring above 9.0 on the Richter scale.

These devastating events highlight the immense seismic activity experienced across various parts of the globe, particularly around tectonic plate boundaries.

Additionally, several other major earthquakes have shaken the Pacific Ring of Fire,  a region known for intense geological activity.

Notable among these are the 2025 Kamchatka quake in Russia, and earlier quakes in Chile (2010), Ecuador–Colombia (1906), and the Rat Islands, USA (1965), all ranging between magnitude 8.7 and 8.8.
