The bank revealed that the decision comes after receiving approval from the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK).

Bank Al Habib Limited (BAHL), operating as Habib Bank in Kenya, has confirmed the closure of its Nairobi representative office, effective May 15, 2025.

In a statement issued on May 5, the bank revealed that the decision comes after receiving approval from the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) on April 30, 2025.

BAHL, headquartered in Pakistan, was granted authority by CBK in April 2018 to establish a Representative Office in Kenya.

The BAHL- Representative Office has since operated in compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.

Al Habib Bank Limited (BAHL) has announced that, following a strategic review conducted by its Board of Directors, it will be ceasing operations in Kenya.

This decision is part of a larger global restructuring effort focused on streamlining international operations and enhancing overall efficiency.

As a result, BAHL will officially wind down its activities in Kenya, with all operations set to cease on May 15, 2025.

The Bank has advised the public and media to direct any inquiries or communications regarding the closure to Oraro & Company Advocates, reachable by phone at (+254) 709 250 000 or via email at [email protected].

In a statement, BAHL expressed its gratitude, saying, "We would like to sincerely thank all our customers, stakeholders, partners, and the Kenyan public for their unwavering support throughout our time in Kenya."

Bank AL Habib Limited is a leading Pakistani commercial bank, part of the Dawood Habib Group.

The Bank first entered the Kenyan market in 2018, establishing a representative office in Nairobi.

In 2020, Habib Bank also opened a representative office in Nairobi as part of its strategy to explore opportunities in the Kenyan market.

This marked Bank Al Habib Limited’s initial investment in Africa. However, the bank ceased its operations in Kenya in July 2024.

This decision followed directives issued by the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) in October 2023, outlining the process for the bank's voluntary cessation of operations in the country.

Habib Bank clarified that its representative office will remain operational, focusing solely on non-business activities until all outstanding obligations are settled.

The office does not engage in commercial banking services but is permitted to conduct research, marketing, and liaison functions on behalf of the parent bank and its affiliates.
