The Kenya Meteorological Department has predicted the onset of rainfall starting Sunday, March 16, with intensity expected to increase by Monday and spread across many regions.

According to a weather forecast issued on Saturday, the Department indicated that various parts of the country, including Nairobi, will experience showers at the start of the week.

"From Sunday, expect light to moderate rainfall over several areas, particularly the Highlands West and East of the Rift Valley—including Nairobi—the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, and the South-Eastern Lowlands," the statement read.

The department also warned of possible isolated heavy downpours in these regions adding that some areas will remain sunny and warm.

The previous weekly forecast (March 11–17) had suggested a temporary decrease in rainfall midweek, followed by a resurgence towards the weekend. Additionally, temperatures in several regions are expected to rise above 30°C.

The meteorological department has advised the public, especially those in flood-prone areas, to stay updated on weather alerts and prepare accordingly.

This comes after Nairobi and other parts of the country experienced heavy rains from Sunday evening to Tuesday last week.

The March 2025 weather forecast, released on February 28, predicts near-to above-average rainfall in several parts of the country, while some regions may experience below-average precipitation.

David Gikungu, the Director of Meteorological Services, has urged farmers to prepare accordingly and seek guidance from their local agricultural extension officers.
