Former Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta paid tribute to Edgar Lungu, describing him as “a distinguished statesman who served his country with dedication and honor.”

In a message on X, Kenyatta wrote, "His unwavering commitment to Zambia’s unity and prosperity was clear throughout his time in office. His calm and thoughtful leadership will be remembered by all who had the privilege to know and work with him."

"I mourn the loss of a trusted friend and cherish the memories of his visits to Kenya, where we shared conversations about Africa’s future, the role of youth, and the importance of fostering unity among our nations," Kenyatta added.

Kenyatta also extended his prayers to Lungu’s family, highlighting his quiet strength and genuine passion for seeing Africa flourish in peace and dignity.

Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema also expressed his condolences, stating, "Our deepest sympathies go out to the family and friends of Zambia’s Sixth President, Edgar Chagwa Lungu. May his soul find eternal peace."

Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan conveyed her support in a message on X, saying, "On behalf of the Government and people of Tanzania, I offer heartfelt condolences to His Excellency Hakainde Hichilema, President Lungu’s family, friends, and the people of Zambia."

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa expressed solidarity with Zambia in its time of mourning.

"As fellow members of the region, South Africans stand united with the people of Zambia during this difficult period. In recent weeks, we have had the honor and responsibility of caring for a leader from our region whom we regarded as both a brother and a friend," Ramaphosa said.

Edgar Lungu, who led Zambia as president from 2015 to 2021, passed away at the age of 68 while undergoing specialized medical treatment in South Africa.
