Brazil named country of honor at Cannes market

The announcement sets the stage for a robust Brazilian presence at the international film market.
Cannes’ prestigious Marché du Film has announced Brazil as its official Country of Honour for the 2024 edition, marking a significant recognition of the country's growing influence in global cinema.
The announcement sets the stage for a robust Brazilian presence at the international film market, with a spotlight on co-production partnerships, cultural exchange, and funding collaborations.
Leading the delegation will be Brazil’s Minister of Culture, Margareth Menezes, who is expected to participate in key panels and networking events during the festival.
Her presence signals the government’s commitment to reinvigorating Brazil’s film industry and fostering international collaboration in the post-pandemic era.
As Country of Honour, Brazil will benefit from increased visibility throughout the Marché du Film, with a series of curated events, industry panels, and showcases dedicated to highlighting Brazilian talent, stories, and financing opportunities.
Producers, distributors, and filmmakers will explore ways to strengthen ties with global partners, particularly in Europe, North America, and Latin America.
The initiative is being led by Brazil’s Audiovisual Secretariat and the national cinema agency ANCINE, in collaboration with international festival organizers.
It comes at a time when Brazilian cinema is experiencing a resurgence, with filmmakers gaining acclaim at global festivals and local productions showing increased international appeal.
The Brazil Country of Honour program will also include screenings of selected Brazilian films, case studies on successful co-productions, and matchmaking sessions for producers seeking cross-border collaborations.
With Cannes serving as the global hub of cinema each year, Brazil’s elevated profile at the Marché du Film is expected to open new doors for its audiovisual sector, from funding to distribution to cultural diplomacy.
