A glittery sock once worn by late pop legend Michael Jackson has been sold at an auction in France for more than Sh1 million, adding to the growing list of high-value memorabilia tied to the King of Pop.
The sequined sock, which Jackson wore during a 1997 concert in Nîmes, southern France, was auctioned on Wednesday, July 30, 2025.
It had been kept in pristine condition for nearly 30 years after being discovered by a technician shortly after the performance.
According to the auctioneer, the item was carefully preserved in a display frame since the concert. “This is truly an extraordinary item almost sacred for Michael Jackson enthusiasts,” said Illy, the auctioneer, highlighting the sock’s rarity and emotional value to collectors.
Michael Jackson’s performance outfits remain highly sought-after by fans and memorabilia buyers worldwide. Since his death in 2009, several pieces from his wardrobe have been auctioned for millions.
In one of the most memorable sales, a Chinese gaming resort paid Sh44.9 million for the glove Jackson wore during his first-ever moonwalk in 1983.
In 2023, a fedora Jackson wore moments before that iconic performance sold for over Sh10 million in Paris, while a black and white leather jacket from his 1980s Pepsi commercial went for Sh43 million.
Back in 2011, contents from his final home—where he lived with his three children—were auctioned for about Sh129 million. Among those items was a rug from beneath his deathbed, which sold for more than Sh2.5 million.
The sale of the glittering sock marks yet another moment where fans and collectors continue to show unwavering interest in Jackson’s legacy, reinforcing his place as one of the most influential and cherished entertainers of all time.
