Police Constable Purity Njeri Kimani attached to Kilimani Police station was arrested on 20th March 2025 after for soliciting and receiving a Kes10,000 bribe from a complainant.

According to the EACC, Njeri had sought the bribe as an inducement not to charge the complainant with an alleged traffic violation.

"The suspect, being a person employed by a public body, was charged with three counts of soliciting a bribe of Kes20,000 and receiving part-payment of Kes10,000 through a Mpesa Till Number," said the EACC in a statement.

Appearing before Milimani Anti-corruption Magistrate Celesa Okore, the accused denied the charges and was released on a Kes20,000 cash bail.

The matter will be mentioned on 2nd April 2025.

The case comes days after a Nairobi court sentenced a police officer to two years in jail for bribery.

Inspector of Police Susan Wambui Muiruri was also given the option of a fine of Ksh. 550,000, after she was found guilty of soliciting and receiving a bribe of Ksh. 10,000 to unlawfully facilitate the release of two suspects from police custody.

In her ruling, Principal Magistrate Isabellah Barasa convicted the officer on two counts of receiving a bribe, contrary to Section 6 (1) (a) as read with Section 18 of the Bribery Act No. 47 of 2016.

The court heard that on April 25, 2021, at Kasarani Police Station in Nairobi, Inspector Muiruri, while serving as a police officer, requested and received a bribe of Ksh. 10,000 from Donald Odhiambo Okumu.
