Senate to hold special sitting to fast-track County Revenue Bills

The business scheduled for the day includes the Equalisation Fund Appropriation Bill (Senate Bills No. 7 of 2025), the County Allocation of Revenue Bill (Senate Bills No. 9 of 2025), and the County Governments Additional Allocations (No. 2) Bill (Senate Bills No. 8 of 2025).
Senators will convene on Friday, June 27, 2025, for a special sitting to discuss four key bills on resource allocation to counties, following a formal notice issued by Speaker Amason Kingi.
The session, called under Senate Standing Orders after a request from the Senate Majority Leader and support from the required number of Senators, will focus on urgent financial legislation meant to guide equitable sharing of revenue.
8 of 2025).
Senators will also consider the Report of the Mediation Committee on the Division of Revenue Bill (National Assembly Bills No. 10 of 2025), as well as the final agreed version of the same.
These bills are critical to the implementation of the 2025–2026 financial year, as they provide the framework for how funds from the national treasury will be distributed to counties and marginalised areas.
Speaker Kingi also noted that the sitting will allow for any other urgent business or official communication from the National Assembly or any County Assembly to be considered by the House.
According to the notice dated June 26, once the day’s agenda is concluded, the Senate will stand adjourned until Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at 2:30 pm., as per the Senate Calendar.
