Senator Orwoba calls out Mash Poa over woman's alleged drugging

Senator Gloria Orwoba has expressed deep concern over the incident, stating it raises significant questions about passenger safety and the safeguards currently in place on Mash Poa buses.
Nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba is demanding accountability from Mash Poa Bus Company following claims by a Nairobi woman who alleges she was drugged, robbed, and sexually assaulted while traveling aboard one of the company’s buses.
In a letter dated April 21, 2025, Senator Orwoba calls for a detailed report on the incident involving Adelle Omondi, describing the matter as deeply troubling.
Omondi, a loctician based in Nairobi, said she boarded a Mash Poa bus bound for Mombasa.
During the journey, a man seated beside her in seat number 38 allegedly played a role in what transpired, ultimately leading to her hospitalization.
According to her account, the man briefly disembarked at Mtito Andei and returned with two cups of tea, one of which he offered her.
After consuming the beverage, she later regained consciousness at Coast General Hospital, disoriented and with all her personal items missing.
She claims that her attempts to obtain information about the suspect from the bus company were unsuccessful, with Mash Poa refusing to share any passenger details.
"I need an explanation of how I woke up in hospital without my private clothes on, yet I had them when boarding that bus. So at this point I don’t know if I was raped while drugged or not. I am losing it because I don’t have answers, and all I am getting from the company is 'we don’t know,'" she said.
Senator Gloria Orwoba has expressed deep concern over the incident, stating it raises significant questions about passenger safety and the safeguards currently in place on Mash Poa buses.
In her letter, she emphasizes the urgency of the matter, urging the company to treat the issue with the seriousness it deserves.
"Given the gravity of the situation, I urge you to prioritize this matter and provide a full incident report detailing the events as they transpired, including any actions taken by your staff and management in response to the incident," she wrote.
The senator underscored that the requested report is not only vital for addressing Omondi’s case but also for helping to strengthen safety measures for all future passengers.
She asked that the report be submitted to her by close of business on Tuesday, April 22, noting that she expects a prompt and thorough response.
