The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has assured the country that it is fully prepared to conduct the by-elections scheduled for November 27, following the release of funds by the National Treasury.
Chairperson Erastus Edung Ethekon said the financial support has enabled the commission to finalize plans for the upcoming mini polls.
Speaking at Maanzoni Lodge in Machakos County on Saturday during a consultative meeting with representatives of 91 political parties, Ethekon expressed confidence in the commission’s readiness to deliver credible by-elections.
"We would like to assure the country and the citizens of this beautiful republic of Kenya that all preparations are the top gear and the resources that we were looking for in order to conduct a successful by elections are now available to us," he said.
He explained that earlier funding gaps had been resolved through discussions with the National Treasury, clearing the way for the electoral process to proceed as scheduled.
"Where there were shortages we've had very candid and honest and fruitful discussions with our national treasury who have since then unlocked that and therefore there's no reason whatsoever why we should not have the by elections as planned."
During the meeting, IEBC, the political parties liaison committee, and the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties signed a memorandum of understanding to guide collaboration and consultations ahead of the November polls.
"Also I would like to brief the nation that this morning up to this afternoon we've had a very fruitful engagement with our political parties through the political party liaisons on the committee platform together with the office of Registrar of the Political Parties (and as I prior tripatised) group," Ethekon said.
He added that the discussions also touched on wider preparations for future electoral activities.
"We have discussed a number of issues on our levels of preparedness not only for 2027 general election but also for the by-elections and the voter registration exercises and campaign that we are launching next week beginning of Monday, September 29."
