Police recover 19 stolen goats in Meru, intensify crackdown on livestock theft

A multi-agency security team, on Thursday, recovered nineteen (19) stolen goats in a successful operation conducted in Ngaremara Location’s Nakuprat area, Isiolo County.

The livestock, which had been stolen from Akongolo area in Igembe Central Sub-County, Meru County, were traced and handed over to their rightful owner on Wednesday, October 9, 2025, after positive identification.

In a statement shared on social media, the National Police Service (NPS) confirmed the recovery, noting that the operation reflects the government’s commitment to combating livestock theft, banditry, and other criminal activities across the region.

“A multi-agency security team recovered nineteen goats yesterday, on 9th October 2025. The recovery took place in the Nakuprat area of Ngaremara Location, Isiolo County,” the statement read.

The NPS said the successful recovery was made possible through coordinated intelligence and timely response by officers deployed in the affected areas. The animals were returned to their owner, who identified them at the scene.

“The goats, which had been stolen from the Akongolo area in Igembe Central Sub-County, were handed over to their owner after he positively identified them,” the statement added.

Police have since launched a manhunt for suspects believed to be involved in the theft.
