The National Police Service (NPS) has stepped up its anti-narcotics operations in Nairobi, arresting three suspects  Tuesday morning and recovering significant quantities of cannabis sativa in two coordinated raids in Umoja One, Buruburu Sub-County.

The latest operation, saw officers seize 877 rolls of cannabis and arrest two suspects, who are now in custody pending arraignment in court. This comes just a few hours after another raid in the same neighbourhood led to the arrest of a suspected drug dealer and the recovery of 20 kilograms of unprocessed cannabis and 3,000 prepared rolls, along with 33 packages of the substance.

The operation, led by Nairobi Region officers, is part of the National Police Service’s ongoing campaign against narcotics trafficking.

According to the NPS, the operation was part of a wider crackdown on narcotics trafficking within Nairobi County and is aligned with the government’s ongoing commitment to combat drug abuse and related criminal activity.

"The suspect was apprehended and is set to be arraigned in court," the statement read.

"This operation is part of the National Police Service’s sustained efforts to curb the distribution and abuse of narcotics within the city and across the country."

The successful operation follows weeks of surveillance in Umoja and its neighbouring estates, where residents had raised concerns about the increasing circulation of illegal drugs among youth.

Police say the intelligence gathered led them directly to the suspect, described as a notorious supplier who has been operating in the area for several months.

Authorities believe the seized cannabis was intended for distribution within Nairobi’s informal settlements and markets, fuelling addiction and social unrest.

The bust, they added, sends a strong warning to drug traffickers operating in urban centres.

The National Police Service commended the officers involved in the operation for their professionalism, vigilance, and commitment to the ongoing anti-narcotics campaign.

The Service reaffirmed that the crackdown on drugs and illicit alcohol remains a top priority, as part of its broader strategy to protect public health and security.

" This operation is part of the National Police Service's sustained efforts to curb the distribution and abuse of narcotics within the city and across the country," the Service said.
