For nearly two decades, Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban were seen as one of entertainment’s most enduring couples, often appearing hand in hand on red carpets and celebrating each other’s career milestones.
But on Tuesday, their long union reached a breaking point when Kidman filed for divorce in Tennessee, citing irreconcilable differences.
The Oscar-winning actress and the country music star have shared their lives both personally and professionally since their wedding in June 2006. Together, they built a family in Nashville, raising two daughters, Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14, while maintaining busy global careers.
Their love story, which began in their shared homeland of Australia, was marked by both challenges and moments of unity. Months after their wedding, Urban entered rehab for drug and alcohol addiction.
Kidman and his close friends held an intervention that Urban later credited with changing the course of his life.
"Everything was just designed, I believe, for that moment to fuse us together," Urban said during a 2010 interview on The Oprah Winfrey Show.
"I look back now and realize Nic has taught me so much and brought so much into my life and opened my eyes in so many ways," he added. "[This is] the best place I've ever been."
Despite these struggles, their bond often seemed unshakable in public. They were regulars at award shows, premieres, and major industry events, often cheering each other on from the audience.
In May, Kidman joined Urban at the Academy of Country Music Awards where he received the ACM Triple Crown Award. Photos from that night showed the couple smiling, holding hands, and sharing affectionate moments.
In June, they were seen again at a FIFA Club World Cup match in Nashville. However, behind the scenes, the couple had already begun living separately.
A source confirmed that they had been apart since the summer and that Kidman did not want the split.
The divorce filing brings an end to a relationship that had become a fixture in Hollywood and the country music world. The exact reasons for their separation remain unclear.
Kidman was previously married to actor Tom Cruise for more than a decade. They divorced in 2001 and share two adopted children.
