Ojwang had appealed the initial ruling, arguing that the sentence was too harsh.

The High Court in Migori has upgraded a 20-year jail sentence to life imprisonment for Paul Otieno Ojwang, who was convicted of defiling a 9-year-old girl in Ombo area in 2022.

Ojwang had appealed the initial ruling, arguing that the sentence was too harsh.

However, the Director of Public Prosecutions pushed back, calling the punishment too lenient given the age of the victim.

Senior Assistant DPP M. Ikol Esaba urged the court to reconsider the penalty, and after reviewing the case, the High Court agreed ruling that Ojwang will now serve a life term behind bars.
