In Summary

Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni told Radio Generation that the convention will demonstrate that the party is fully operational and committed to its principles, following a series of internal court battles that had threatened its leadership.

Jubilee Party is set to hold a Special National Delegates Convention (NDC) next week as it seeks to reassure supporters and outline its strategy ahead of the 2027 elections.

Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni told Radio Generation that the convention will demonstrate that the party is fully operational and committed to its principles, following a series of internal court battles that had threatened its leadership.

“That is why, one of the reasons why as Jubilee we are having our NDC next week is so that we can tell Kenyans, followers of Jubilee and supporters of Jubilee, that while we were in the campaigns for Ruto must to go, we were also struggling in court to ensure that the party is not stolen from us by those who are all in UDA in government, and those who also decided to work with it. Some of them have left. Others are still doing that,” Kioni said.

The SG explained that the party leader, former President Uhuru Kenyatta, will address delegates on the party’s future, his vision for its role, and how Jubilee intends to operate as an opposition force.

“Our party leader will be the one talking to us. He has not talked to us for that role because of that case; he will want to hear what he intends. What does he think of the future of the party? How does he want it to behave? Heading to 2027,” Kioni said.

The NDC is also aimed at clarifying Jubilee’s opposition position to supporters and other political actors.

“I’m sure he will be able to clarify, to not to clarify, to affirm that we, as Jubilee leadership, and everyone of us are in the opposition, so that people stop double-guessing us and even our colleagues,” Kioni added.

The former Ndaragwa MP highlighted the need for the convention to address emerging challenges from political aspirants.

The Jubilee Party announced the Special NDC is set for September 26, 2025, at the Jockey Club, Ngong Racecourse, Nairobi, and will commence at 8 am.

Convened by party leader Uhuru Kenyatta, it is expected to be a milestone in Jubilee’s efforts to rebuild and regain momentum.

According to the official notice, delegates will receive a status report from the National Executive Committee (NEC), followed by deliberations on reviewing, formulating, and approving the party’s constitution, organs, policies, and programmes.

The meeting will also consider and approve any other pressing matters affecting the party.

The Special NDC is seen as a defining moment for Jubilee as it seeks to reposition itself on Kenya’s political landscape, strengthen its structures, and renew its relevance ahead of future contests.

This follows the party’s recent NEC meeting, chaired virtually by Uhuru, marking his first active leadership role since Jubilee resolved a series of internal legal disputes that had created a leadership vacuum.

The NEC session focused on assessing the party’s current state, monitoring ongoing activities, and outlining a strategic plan to revitalize Jubilee’s national presence.

Kioni emphasized that the NDC is a critical step for Jubilee to rebuild structures, strengthen leadership, and reassert itself as a principled opposition party in Kenya’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 elections.
