Kenyans seeking police clearance certificates no longer have to travel long distances to Nairobi or regional DCI offices. Authorities have rolled out the service at select Huduma Centres across the country, making it faster and easier to obtain the essential document.
“Police clearance is now within reach. Walk into select Huduma Centres and get your good conduct certificate processed faster,” Huduma Kenya said in a statement on X on Thursday.
The agency noted that the process cannot be completed entirely online, as fingerprinting must be done in person due to legal and technical requirements. “Biometrics capture requires physical presence,” Huduma Kenya added.
Police clearance certificates, also called Certificates of Good Conduct, are essential for employment, immigration, or professional licensing. They verify whether an applicant has a criminal record, pending cases, or previous convictions.
Applicants start the process on the eCitizen portal by logging in or creating an account and selecting DCI services.
They then choose Police Clearance Certificate, complete the required information, and pay Sh1,050. The system produces a C24 fingerprint form and a receipt, which must both be printed.
Fingerprinting is compulsory and requires an appointment. Applicants must appear at designated centres, including Huduma Centres, the DCI headquarters on Kiambu Road, or regional DCI offices. They should carry their original national ID or passport, a copy of the same, two passport-sized photos, the C24 form, and the payment receipt.
Once fingerprints are captured, the DCI processes the application, typically within two to four weeks. Applicants receive notifications via SMS or email when the certificate is ready. The certificate can then be downloaded from the eCitizen account and remains valid for twelve months from the issue date.
