The Head of State said he looks forward to “advocating reform of the global financial system, fair development finance, a more inclusive UN, and stronger global climate action.”

President William Ruto has arrived in New York for the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

In an X post on Sunday, September 21, 2025, the Head of State said he looks forward to “advocating reform of the global financial system, fair development finance, a more inclusive UN, and stronger global climate action.”

“I will also engage fellow heads of state and government and private sector leaders to strengthen existing ties and explore new areas of cooperation that will advance Kenya’s transformation agenda,” he added.

Ruto was received by international dignitaries alongside Kenyan leaders, among them Prime Cabinet Secretary and Foreign Affairs CS Musalia Mudavadi.

The Assembly, which opened on September 9 and runs until September 29, brings together world leaders at a pivotal time for multilateralism.

Ruto is expected to champion Kenya’s role in global cooperation, pressing for reforms of the financial system and fair access to development finance for developing nations. He will also call for a more inclusive United Nations capable of addressing urgent global peace and security challenges.

His agenda includes supporting peace efforts in Sudan, South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Somalia, and Haiti.

At the Committee of Ten (C-10) Summit, he will push for Africa’s common position on UN Security Council reform and underscore the need for stronger partnerships to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

Kenya will also host a high-level side event on Haiti during UNGA week to share lessons from its leadership of the Multinational Security Support Mission. Recently, Kenya-led troops in Haiti successfully recaptured the strategic TELECO site in Kenscoff after a night-long operation.
