Nairobi, Kiambu, Nyeri, Meru and other areas east of the Rift Valley are expected to experience afternoon showers and chilly nights over the next five days, according to the Kenya Meteorological Department.
The weather agency said the forecast covers Friday, September 26 to Tuesday, September 30, 2025, with different regions across the country set for varied weather patterns.
In its statement, the department indicated that the highlands west of the Rift Valley, north-western Kenya and parts of the Rift Valley will also receive rainfall during this period.
Areas in the eastern highlands, including Nairobi, Kiambu, Nyeri, Murang’a and Meru, will wake up to cloudy mornings before clearing into sunny spells. Light showers are expected later in the afternoons.
Daytime temperatures in these highland regions could reach up to 29°C, with some places dropping to as low as 5°C at night.
In Kericho, Bungoma, Nakuru, Kakamega, Kisumu and Bomet, residents should prepare for morning showers followed by afternoon thunderstorms throughout the week. Temperatures here will range between 32°C during the day and 8°C at night.
Turkana and Samburu counties are forecasted to receive morning showers, followed by sunny afternoons. These areas will remain hot, with daytime highs of 36°C and night temperatures between 7°C and 8°C.
In contrast, Marsabit, Mandera, Garissa and Wajir are expected to remain hot and dry. Daytime temperatures will average 37°C, while the minimum at night will be between 14°C and 16°C.
The South Eastern lowlands, including Machakos, Kajiado, Makueni, Kitui and Taita Taveta, will have sunny conditions during the day and partly cloudy skies at night. Temperatures are projected to remain warm, ranging from 30°C to 32°C in the daytime.
At the coast, covering Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale, Lamu and parts of Tana River, the weather will be generally sunny during the day with partly cloudy nights.
There is also a possibility of light showers. Daytime temperatures are expected to range between 30°C and 32°C, with minimums of 21°C to 23°C at night.
The department further cautioned that strong winds of about 46 km/h may affect sections of the coast, south-eastern lowlands, north-eastern and north-western regions.
