Weather conditions in Nairobi and several other regions are expected to shift this week, with rainfall and thunderstorms predicted from October 14 to 20, 2025, according to the Kenya Meteorological Department.
Residents are advised to anticipate changing weather patterns, ranging from sunny intervals to wet afternoons, depending on the region.
Rainfall is forecast across the Central Highlands, Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, Coast, and parts of Western, North Western, and North Eastern Kenya.
Counties likely to see showers include Nandi, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Busia, Baringo, Nakuru, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, West Pokot, Kisii, Nyamira, Kericho, Bomet, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, and Narok.
“Most nights will be partly cloudy, though some areas may experience light showers,” the weatherman said, noting that while early-week showers may be scattered, more areas are expected to experience rainfall as the week advances.
Temperature levels will vary across the country. Coastal, North Eastern, and North Western regions will experience daytime highs above 30°C, while cooler nights, below 10°C, are expected in parts of the Central Highlands, Central Rift Valley, and areas surrounding Mt. Kilimanjaro.
Eastern, northern, and coastal counties will largely stay hot and dry, with daytime temperatures surpassing 30°C. Southeastern lowlands, including Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado, Taita Taveta, and inland Tana River, will experience sunny days with partly cloudy nights.
At the Coast, counties such as Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, Kwale, and coastal Tana River will see mainly sunny conditions during the day and partly cloudy skies at night, with temperatures remaining around 32°C.
In North Western regions including Turkana and Samburu, sunny weather will dominate most of the week, with occasional rain expected over isolated areas by Saturday. Maximum temperatures in these counties will range from 35°C to 37°C.
Highland areas east of the Rift Valley, including Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka Nithi, and Nairobi, will experience cloudy mornings breaking into sunny intervals, with a chance of afternoon showers.
Nights will be partly cloudy, with temperatures ranging from 6°C to 30°C. In North Eastern counties like Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo, sunny intervals will continue, with isolated showers expected later in the week, and daytime temperatures between 33°C and 36°C.
Looking back at the previous week from October 6 to 12, rainfall was recorded in counties including Kiambu, Nyeri, Kisii, Murang’a, and Kakamega.
“Gakoe Tea Estate in Kiambu County recorded the highest 24-hour rainfall of 67.0 mm on October 7,” the department noted.
Mandera recorded the highest daily temperature of 38.3°C on October 9, while Nyahururu registered the lowest at 5.0°C on October 11.
The Meteorological Department also observed a decrease in daytime temperatures across most areas, with slight rises in Suba, Kisumu, and Lodwar.
Nighttime temperatures rose in the Highlands east of the Rift Valley, along the Coast, in the southeastern lowlands, and in North Western Kenya.
The department reminded Kenyans to use the weekly forecast together with daily 24-hour updates and to consult county-specific weather information from their local County Directors of Meteorological Services for accurate planning.
