Nairobi United made their Kenya Premier League bow a victorious one on Wednesday, as they beat relegation candidates Mara Sugar FC 1-0 in a clash played at the Awendo Green Stadium in South Nyanza.
Ovella Ochieng was the match winner for Nairobi United, who backed up their CAF Confederation Cup success over Uganda's NEC FC, with a massive three points on the road.
Having also recently made their first ever continental foray, three points in their first ever top-flight match will feel like Gold dust.
Mara Sugar, on their part, played decently but once again failed to convert the chances they created, and with Ovella striking, it leaves them with one point from two games played. Having also played Kakamega Homeboyz at home in their first match, they drew 0-0.
Meanwhile, Tusker FC continued with their slow start to life in the top-flight league, with a frustrating 0-0 draw versus Mathare United at the Dandora Stadium, making it just one point from a possible nine for the brewers.
Both teams have had mixed starts to the season and it showed as they cancelled each other out at a hot Dandora Stadium, both coaches choosing a safety-first approach in the wake of recent developments.
For Tusker FC head coach Charles Okere, their start to the season has been unsatisfactory and with Bandari boss Ken Odhiambo recently losing his job following a poor start to the season, the writing is definitely on the wall for the former Harambee Starlets coach, a fourth place finish last season, having already been described by the club as unsatisfactory.
At Police Sacco Stadium in Nairobi South C, the clash pitting Police FC and their counterparts from the Military, Ulinzi Stars, ended scoreless as well, with the defending champions starting their defence with a colourless display.
Police, who survived an onslaught from Mogadishu City Club on Sunday to ensure Champions League progression, were kept at par by a resolute Ulinzi who have improved defensively in the off-season.
Following the results, Ulinzi Stars are currently fourth on the log with five points, three matches in. Mathare are fifth with four points.
Nairobi United are ninth with three points, Police are 13th with a point, Mara Sugar 15th and Tusker are 17th of 18.
