President William Ruto on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, led nationwide celebrations of Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) Day, an annual occasion dedicated to honoring the courage, dedication, and sacrifices of men and women in uniform.
This year’s event was held at Moi Barracks in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County, officials confirmed, drawing military personnel, government leaders, and invited guests.

The celebrations included impressive military parades, skill demonstrations, and solemn tributes to fallen soldiers, alongside speeches by senior government and military officials recognizing the vital role of the KDF.
KDF Day was established to acknowledge the bravery and commitment of Kenya’s defence forces and their ongoing contribution to national and regional security.

The day also commemorates the anniversary of Operation Linda Nchi, launched on October 14, 2011, when KDF entered Somalia to fight the Al-Shabaab militant group.

Since the first observance in 2012, KDF Day has served both as a solemn remembrance of soldiers who paid the ultimate price and a celebration of the force’s continued service to the country.
