The government has postponed the national verification exercise for the Nyota Project, which was scheduled to take place on Friday, October 17, 2025, across all 290 constituencies.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, the State Department for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Development said the decision was made following the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and the declaration of a national mourning period by President William Ruto.

“This decision follows the untimely passing of the Former Prime Minister of the Republic of Kenya, the Right Honourable Raila Amolo Odinga, earlier today, and the Presidential Proclamation issued by His Excellency Dr. William Samoei Ruto announcing a period of national mourning from today until sunset on the day of the late leader’s interment,” Principal Secretary Susan Mang’eni said.

The verification exercise, which was to involve Principal Secretaries, elected leaders, and National Government Administration Officers, was part of a nationwide initiative under the Whole-of-Government Approach to support MSME development.

The State Department noted that new dates for the exercise will be announced later.

Mang’eni, in her statement, extended condolences to the Odinga family and all Kenyans, describing the former Prime Minister as a great statesman and patriot who dedicated his life to the service, peace, unity, and progress of our beloved country.

The department said it joins the nation in mourning the passing of the veteran leader, adding that all government activities linked to the Nyota project would resume after the national mourning period, declared by President William Ruto.
