The CAF Confederation Cup First Preliminary Round continued on Saturday, 27 September, with five clubs confirming their places in the next stage of the competition.
After an action-packed day across the continent, Kaizer Chiefs (South Africa), Nairobi United (Kenya), Académie de FAD (Côte d’Ivoire), San Pédro (Côte d’Ivoire), and Singida Black Stars (Tanzania) all advanced to the Second Preliminary Round.
In Johannesburg, Kaizer Chiefs showed resilience to overturn their first-leg deficit against Kabuscorp of Angola. The South African giants levelled the tie on aggregate before edging their opponents 5–4 in a tense penalty shootout.
Goalkeeper Brandon Petersen emerged as the hero, making the decisive save to guide Amakhosi into the next round.
In Nairobi, Nairobi United sealed their progression with a 1–1 draw against NEC FC of Uganda, advancing on away goals after a hard-fought tie. Duncan Omalla’s crucial strike ensured the Kenyan debutants continue their fairytale journey on the continental stage.
Académie de FAD (AFAD) produced one of the standout performances of the day in Abidjan, overcoming Senegal’s Génération Foot in a thrilling 5–3 victory. The result gave the Ivorian side a commanding aggregate win and showcased their attacking flair in front of their home supporters.
Fellow Ivorians San Pédro also secured their ticket to the next round, holding Cameroon’s Aigle Royal to a 2–2 draw to advance 3–2 on aggregate. Despite a spirited challenge from their visitors, San Pédro’s composure and consistency across both legs proved decisive.
Completing Saturday’s list of qualifiers, Singida Black Stars delighted their fans with a 2–1 triumph over Rwanda’s Rayon Sports. That result gave the Tanzanian club a 3–1 aggregate victory, highlighting their potential as dark horses in this year’s competition.
With these five teams confirmed, Saturday’s action adds to the earlier qualification of Ferroviário de Maputo (Mozambique), Royal Leopards (Eswatini), and KMKM (Zanzibar).
