Gor Mahia defender Jared Kibwage was relieved to collect a first win for the club this season, following Saturday's 2-0 success over Sofapaka.

Gor, begun their Kenyan Premier League campaign for 2025/26 with a 1-0 home loss to relegation candidates Bidco United, to leave K'ogalo reeling, following what was a shock result. Saturday at the Dandora Stadium presented an opportunity for Gor to make a comeback and they did just that with a focused display.

K'ogalo, as they are nicknamed, had Ghanaian midfielder Ebenezer Adukwaw to thank for their win on Saturday.

Their breakthrough arrived in the 32nd minute. A deep corner from the right caused chaos in the Sofapaka box, with Bryton Onyona’s header sparking a goalmouth scramble. Amid the confusion, Ghanaian forward Ebenezer Adukwaw pounced quickest, bundling the ball over the line past Victor Kamungo to hand Gor Mahia the lead.

In the 55th minute, Gor Mahia doubled their advantage when Austine Odhiambo picked up a loose ball in midfield and fed Ebenezer Adukwaw, who turned neatly before releasing a strike from 20 yards. The Ghanaian forward’s effort took on a looping trajectory, sailing over Victor Kamungo and dropping just beneath the crossbar to make it 2-0.

" Brilliant shift from everyone yesterday to get our first win of the season. Perfect launchpad into the new season, he said after the match.

Gor will be looking to bounce back and return to the summit of the Premier League this season, after finishing second behind Kenya Police FC in the league last term and they have strengthened with the additions of the likes of Adukwaw and Kibwage, who joined from Tusker FC.

Shabana currently lead the way with six points from two matches played. Gor are fourth at the moment. They next take on KCB on Saturday in their third match of the season.
