Luton Town are set to usher in a new era of leadership as former Arsenal and England midfielder Jack Wilshere prepares to be unveiled as the club’s new head coach on Monday. The appointment follows a weekend of positive negotiations, culminating in a deal that marks Wilshere’s first full-time role in senior management.
Wilshere steps into the role vacated by Matt Bloomfield, who was dismissed earlier this month after a nine-month tenure. Bloomfield’s departure came in the wake of a defeat to Stevenage, leaving Luton 11th in League One and still reeling from their relegation from the Championship last season.
Despite taking charge in January, Bloomfield was unable to reverse the club’s fortunes, with their drop confirmed on the final day.
Wilshere, 33, arrives with a growing coaching résumé. He most recently served as interim manager at Norwich City, overseeing their final two fixtures of the 2024–25 campaign following the dismissal of Johannes Hoff Thorup.
Under Wilshere’s brief stewardship, Norwich earned a draw at Middlesbrough and secured a home victory against Cardiff. Prior to that, he held a first-team coaching role at Carrow Road from October 2024, having previously led Arsenal’s U18s.
Luton’s decision to appoint Wilshere comes after considering several candidates, including Leyton Orient’s Richie Wellens and Watford coach Charlie Daniels. The club has scheduled a press conference for Monday to formally introduce their new head coach, signaling a fresh chapter at Kenilworth Road.
Wilshere’s arrival is expected to inject new energy and vision into a side eager to climb back up the English football pyramid.
