Chaos on Jogoo Road as traders protest planned demolitions

Nairobi's Jogoo Road was a scene of chaos on Tuesday morning as traders from Uhuru Market took to the streets in protest against planned demolitions.
The demonstrators, who disrupted traffic operations on the busy road, initially converged at Uhuru Market, before deciding to escalate their protest.
They then lit tires near the Likoni Road junction, scattered litter along the highway, and blocked transport operations on the road used by many commuters and motorists to access Nairobi CBD and other areas including the Industrial area.
As a result, motorists had to seek alternative routes, with many diverting to Outering Road and accessing Nairobi’s central business district via Juja Road.
Others navigated through feeder roads in nearby estates to bypass the congestion, as heavy traffic built up on the alternative routes.
