A Nairobi-based lawyer, Mathew Kyalo Mbobu, was shot dead in his car on Tuesday evening while driving from work along Magadi Road in Karen, Nairobi.

Witnesses and police said the attack occurred during a traffic jam, carried out by gunmen on a motorcycle.

Mbobu, a former chairman of the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal and a lecturer at Multimedia University, was targeted less than a kilometre from the Galleria Mall.

Police reported that the assailants shattered his car window before firing at least three bullets into his chin.

His body was found slumped on the driver’s seat as officers rushed to the scene.

The gunmen escaped immediately after the attack, and investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend them.

Police confirmed that the incident is being treated as a targeted killing, but further details on the motive or suspects have not yet been released.

The legal and academic community have been left shocked by the sudden death of Mbobu, who played a significant role in dispute resolution among political parties and contributed to the education of law students at Multimedia University.
