Kenya Lionesses dreaming of participating in HSBC World Sevens Series

The Kenya Women's Rugby Sevens team, dubbed the Lionesses, will give their all in the final meeting of the crucial Challenger Series in Krakow, Poland, as their dream of playing in next season's HSBC World Series edges ever closer.

Having dominated the opening two legs of the World Rugby Sevens Challenger Series, the Kenya Lionesses head into the final leg with confidence and determination.

The team has been drawn into Pool A, where they will face Belgium, Colombia, and Thailand as they seek to secure a place in the high-stakes playoffs in Los Angeles.

The Lionesses who won the first two legs of the series held in Cape Town, South Africa, have firmly positioned themselves as strong contenders for HSBC Series qualification.

Now, with everything to play for, the Lionesses are keen to maintain their winning momentum and cement their place among the world’s elite.

The top four teams from this decisive leg will advance to the playoffs in Los Angeles, where they will battle for a coveted spot in the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series.

Speaking ahead of this leg, the head coach, Dennis Mwanja, emphasized the importance of focus and execution.

"We have worked hard to be in this position, and now it’s about finishing the job. The players understand what’s at stake, and we are ready to give our all," he was quoted by the Kenya Rugby Union.

The four men's and women's teams with the most cumulative points gained across the three Challenger rounds will then qualify for the HSBC SVNS Play Off in Los Angeles on 3 – 4 May, where they will face the bottom four ranked teams from HSBC SVNS 2025 in a high-stakes promotion and relegation tournament with four coveted places in future SVNS at stake.

At the moment, Kenya leads the way with 40 points. They have collected a maximum 20 points by winning a leg of in the series. South Africa follow with 34 points.

Argentina and Colombia both follow with 30 points, while the Czech Republic are fifth with 22 points.

The teams will converge in Krakow on the weekend of 11-12 April.

The Grand Final will take place in Los Angeles 5-6 May.
