Most parts of Kenya are expected to remain sunny and dry from September 30 to October 6, 2025, while rainfall may occur in the Highlands, Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, and northwestern regions, with isolated heavy showers possible.
Daytime temperatures could exceed 30°C along the Coast and in the North-eastern and North-western regions. Night-time lows are likely to drop below 10°C in parts of the Highlands East, Central Rift Valley, and around Mt. Kilimanjaro.
In a statement, the Kenya Meteorological Department said: “Most parts of the country are likely to be sunny and dry. However, rainfall is expected in the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley and North-western Kenya. Isolated heavy rainfall events may occur over some parts of these regions.”
The Highlands West of the Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, and parts of the Rift Valley such as Kakamega, Bungoma, Kisii, and Nakuru Counties will experience morning rains, afternoon showers and thunderstorms, and occasional night showers.
In North-western Kenya, particularly Turkana and Samburu Counties, morning rains alongside afternoon and night thunderstorms are likely over a few places.
For the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, including Nyandarua, Nyeri, Meru, and Nairobi Counties, cloudy mornings will give way to sunny intervals, with afternoon showers developing in the first half of the forecast period and increasing towards the end of the week. Nights will be partly cloudy with occasional showers.
North-eastern Kenya is expected to remain largely dry and sunny, although there is a chance of rains and showers in Marsabit County during the second half of the forecast period.
In the South-eastern lowlands (Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado, Taita-Taveta, and inland Tana River), conditions will be generally sunny with partly cloudy nights, though Machakos and Kajiado may record showers later in the week.
Along the Coast (Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, Kwale, and coastal Tana River), sunny days and partly cloudy nights are expected, with a possibility of morning showers in a few places.
Daytime temperatures will remain high in several areas, with maximum averages expected to exceed 30°C in much of the Coast, North-eastern, and North-western Kenya.
In contrast, cooler night-time conditions are forecast in parts of the Highlands. The department noted: “Night-time (minimum) average temperatures are expected to be less than 10°C in some parts of the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, the Central Rift Valley and in the vicinity of Mt. Kilimanjaro.”
The forecast data shows Mandera will record the highest daily maximum of 39°C, while Nyahururu will record the lowest minimum of 5°C. Nairobi’s daytime highs are expected to reach 29°C, with lows of 9°C.
