A 27-19 revenge victory over Thailand was a just reward for the Kenya Sevens Women's team, Lionesses, as they managed third place in the third leg of the Challenger Series Saturday in Krakow, Poland.

The third-place playoff was as a result of losing the semifinal to South Africa earlier in the day.

The match ended 22-10 in South Africa's favour.

In the group stage on Friday, the Lionesses lost 28-12 to a determined Thai side, meaning that they finished second in group A of the competition.

Kenya beat Colombia 12-7 and Belgium 12-0 in their other group matches.

During the third-place playoff, the Kenyans played well from the onset and managed five tries.

Freshia Odour scored a hattrick of tries with Stella Wafula adding another two more. Sinaida Nyachio added two points off the boot to hand Kenya the much needed win.

South Africa beat Argentina 21-12 to win the overall Cup competition in Poland.

Kenya leads the Challenger Series log with 56 points. South Africa are second with 54. Argentina take third with 48 points.

The Kenyans will now participate in the final leg in Los Angeles in May, where they will get an opportunity to compete for a place in the HSBC Sevens Series 2025/26.
