Labour Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua has urged the elimination of sexual harassment in workplaces, calling on managers to create safe and respectful environments for all employees.

During his address at the Labour Day celebrations at Uhuru Gardens, Mutua shared that his office has received numerous reports of harassment and emphasized that this unethical behavior must come to an end.

"I continue to receive many complaints regarding sexual harassment at workplaces," he stated.

The CS highlighted the importance of discouraging inappropriate behavior and specifically advised managers to refrain from engaging in romantic relationships with subordinate staff members.

"When a young woman is hired as a supervisor, you should not start seducing her," Mutua said.

"A manager should not be dating a junior employee in the same office."

He commended Kenyan workers for their commitment, resilience, and crucial contribution to the nation’s growth.

"As we advocate for safe, fair, and inclusive workplaces, my ministry remains dedicated to safeguarding workers' rights, increasing employment opportunities, and promoting dignity in all forms of work, both locally and internationally," Mutua stated.

Additionally, Mutua emphasized the government’s initiatives to boost overseas job prospects, noting that they have closed loopholes previously exploited by unscrupulous agents.

"We have the ‘Kazi Mtandaoni’ program, launched by you, President Ruto, and by 2022, nearly 2 million Kenyans were engaged in digital jobs, with the numbers steadily rising," he added.

Mutua informed the president that the ministry is working diligently to ensure the labor sector plays a pivotal role in advancing Kenya’s development, in alignment with the president’s ambitious economic agenda.
