Woman nabbed at JKIA with 1.3kg of cocaine bound for India

The arrest was carried out by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) after the suspect was flagged for a routine check as she prepared to board her flight.
A 25-year-old woman was arrested at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on May 2 for attempting to smuggle cocaine into India.
The arrest was carried out by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) after the suspect was flagged for a routine check as she prepared to board her flight.
The DCI’s Anti-Narcotics Unit officers discovered the drugs after inspecting the woman’s luggage.
They found two smaller bags hidden within her belongings, which, upon closer inspection, contained a white powdery substance wrapped in yellow cello tape.
The substance was tested on-site, and a spot test confirmed it to be cocaine, with a total weight of 1.3 kilograms.
The woman was immediately detained and is currently held at the JKIA Police Station, where she awaits processing and her subsequent court appearance.
Authorities have secured the cocaine as evidence and are continuing their investigation into the matter.
The DCI highlighted the significant role that vigilant airport security plays in intercepting drug trafficking attempts, especially in cases involving international routes.
This incident underscores the ongoing efforts by Kenyan authorities to combat the trafficking of illegal substances through the country's airways and serves as a reminder of the risks associated with drug smuggling operations.
