Matiang’i declares 2027 presidential bid as Gusii region rallies behind him

Matiang'i declared his commitment to transforming the nation, stating he had heard the concerns of Kenyans.
Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i has confirmed that he will be running for the presidency in the upcoming 2027 elections.
While addressing a crowd in Keroka town during his homecoming ceremony, Matiang'i declared his commitment to transforming the nation, stating he had heard the concerns of Kenyans and was determined to steer the country toward progress and prosperity.
Massive crowds from both Kisii and Nyamira counties filled key towns across the Gusii region to give Matiang’i a warm welcome—his first public appearance in the area since returning from the United States two weeks ago.
"I want to share this with you, my fellow citizens. Yes, we are facing many challenges, but I urge you—let’s not give up on our country. Kenya is a nation founded on resilience, and if we stand united, we can keep moving forward," Matiang’i said, drawing cheers from the crowd.
"Will you give me a chance to speak to all Kenyans across the counties?"
In Kisii town, the massive turnout forced organizers to shift the event to Gusii Stadium to avert the risk of a stampede.
Kisii Governor Simba Arati and Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo are among the leaders who pledged to tour the country in support of Matiang’i’s candidacy.
