In Summary

The Anne Nderitu-led office has been allocated Sh213.2 million more in the new budget.

As Kenya heads toward the 2027 General Election, the office of the Registrar of Political Parties is receiving a substantial funding boost to prepare for the critical electoral period.

The Anne Nderitu-led office has been allocated Sh213.2 million more in the new budget, bringing its total budget for the upcoming financial year to Sh1.93 billion.

This allocation marks a significant increase from the current year's Sh1.72 billion.

The funds will be channeled into various sectors within the office, with Sh1.42 billion earmarked for political party funding, Sh494.6 million for registration and regulation of political parties, and Sh14.04 million designated for partnerships and civic education.

The allocations for the office are projected to grow even further in the coming years, reaching Sh2.08 billion in 2026/2027 and Sh2.15 billion in 2027/2028.

This move comes at a time when political activity is expected to intensify as the country moves closer to the election year.

In addition to the boost for the Registrar of Political Parties, the country's anti-corruption efforts are also set to receive a significant increase.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has been allocated Sh4.36 billion for the upcoming financial year, a Sh165.8 million increase from the previous year's budget.

The EACC will use this funding to investigate more than 1,300 corruption and economic crime cases, complete 300 high-impact ethical breach investigations, and assess 255 institutions for compliance with asset declaration requirements.

The commission will also focus on asset recovery, targeting Sh19.2 billion worth of corruptly acquired assets.

To increase public awareness, the EACC aims to reach 90 million people, conduct system reviews for 27 institutions, and provide 600 advisory services related to bribery prevention.

Furthermore, the commission will train 440 integrity officers and support 30 institutions in implementing anti-corruption policies.

Notably, the National Intelligence Service (NIS) is set to receive Sh51.4 billion in the next financial year, a slight reduction from the previous year's allocation of Sh55 billion.

However, this amount is expected to increase in subsequent years, reaching Sh55.67 billion in 2026/2027 and Sh63.3 billion in 2027/2028.

The Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) will receive Sh4.18 billion for the coming fiscal year, a decrease of Sh38.7 million compared to the current budget.

However, the allocation will grow to Sh4.9 billion in 2026/2027 and Sh5.25 billion in 2027/2028.

The ODPP has committed to enhancing its public prosecutions services program, with a focus on prioritizing corruption cases, speeding up the processing of investigative files, supporting victims and witnesses, and strengthening its capacity to handle emerging crimes.

The Prosecution Training Institute will also be fully operationalized, and the Uadilifu Case Management System will be rolled out nationwide.

In addition, the witness protection agency will see its budget rise to Sh841,206,825, up from Sh723,134,000.

The agency anticipates managing an average of 150 witnesses and their related individuals in the coming financial year.
