Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has reiterated the Kenyan government’s dedication to supporting small-scale traders, including mama mbogas (vegetable vendors) and boda boda riders.

Speaking at a Bottom-up Economic Empowerment forum in Mawingu, Kipipiri, Nyandarua County on Thursday, Kindiki made it clear that this support will also be extended to small-scale traders’ savings and credit cooperative societies (Saccos) as part of efforts to improve livelihoods at the grassroots level.

"We will continue to empower mama mboga, boda boda, and small-scale traders' Saccos and other critical groups who are at the grassroots because it is critical to boost their efforts in order to uplift their livelihoods," Kindiki said.

He noted that the government views the empowerment of these groups as vital to improving their economic prospects and strengthening their role in the national economy.

According to Kindiki, the government’s support will play a key role in expanding small businesses, leading to better returns for traders and other participants in the informal sector.

He stressed that this approach is designed to create opportunities for growth and development in the business community.

"For the small-scale traders, empowerment is important as it will go a long way in rejigging their businesses, aiding expansion to improve returns on their businesses,” Kindiki added.

His remarks align with the Kenya Kwanza administration’s continued push for bottom-up economic policies that directly benefit ordinary Kenyans.

In addition to economic support, Kindiki addressed the issue of pending title deeds in Nyandarua County, a longstanding concern for many local residents.

He assured them that the government is committed to resolving this issue, particularly for colonial villages in the area.

"We will find a solution to the pending title deeds issue for colonial villages in Nyandarua County because it is an issue we must solve as requested by residents," Kindiki said.

His statement reflects the administration's determination to deliver on promises made during the election campaign.

Kindiki also outlined several ongoing infrastructure projects in Nyandarua County, including the construction of modern markets in Wanjohi and Mawingu, as well as the completion of important roads like the Geta-Ndunyu Njeru road.

He assured the public that these projects will be completed ahead of the 2027 elections.

"We have stabilised the economy, and now it's time to work. We are working every day to uplift the lives of the people," Kindiki concluded, stressing the government’s focus on improving the living standards of all Kenyans.
