President William Ruto has made two key board appointments, naming new non-executive chairpersons to lead the Information and Communications Technology Authority (ICTA) and the Nuclear Power and Energy Agency (NuPEA).

In a gazette notice dated May 16, Ruto appointed Professor Lawrence Gumbe as the new chair of the board of the Nuclear Power and Energy Agency for a four-year term.

"In exercise of the powers conferred by section 58 (a) of the Energy Act, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint Lawrence O. Gumbe (Prof. Eng) to be the Non-Executive Chairperson of Board of Nuclear Power and Energy Agency," reads the Gazette Notice.

Gumbe, who is an engineer and academic, will be responsible for steering the agency’s strategic direction at a time when Kenya is exploring nuclear energy as part of its long-term power plans.

At the same time, Ruto appointed Lily Ng’ok as the new chair of the ICT Authority board, replacing Sylvanus Maritim, whose appointment has been revoked and will now serve as the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Kenya Industrial

Estates, for a period of three years, with effect from the 16th May, 2025.

Ng’ok will serve for a three-year term starting May 16, 2025.
