Supkem Isiolo expresses frustration over alleged marginalization by headquarters

Branch officials said they were legitimately elected, yet were not informed or involved in the recent delegates’ meeting held in Nairobi.
The Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims (SUPKEM) Isiolo Branch has voiced concerns over being excluded by the national headquarters from key meetings requiring their involvement.
Speaking to reporters in Isiolo town, branch officials said they were legitimately elected, yet were not informed or involved in the recent delegates’ meeting held in Nairobi.
Mohamed Abdikadir, chairman of SUPKEM Isiolo Branch, expressed disappointment over the lack of communication, stating, "We were legally elected at the grassroots level, and we do not recognize those who represented our county at the meeting."
He added that it has been customary for the headquarters to notify them of meetings through official letters, but recently, they have stopped sending such communications to Isiolo and other branches.
Abdikadir warned that this exclusion amounts to discrimination and could cause division among Muslim communities.
Similarly, Mohamed Guyo, the branch treasurer, said they were surprised to learn about the national delegates conference, which they did not attend as the rightful representatives.
"Those who attended that meeting are not part of our team, and we have no knowledge of who authorized them. This amounts to impersonation, which is illegal, and we strongly condemn it," Guyo stated.
Living as Muslims in Isiolo, Guyo emphasized that their community has maintained good relations and they do not want conflicts stirred by officials from the national headquarters.
Bilal Ahmed Bilal, a youth leader with the SUPKEM Isiolo Branch, expressed disappointment that national leaders seem intent on causing divisions among Isiolo’s leadership, which could disrupt their work.
"They should handle matters properly and communicate with us directly if there are issues to resolve. It’s important to respect the leaders who were legitimately elected and allow them to carry out their duties," Bilal urged.
