The event is set for Saturday, beginning at 7 am and concluding around 11 am.

Motorists in Nairobi and nine additional counties have been warned about potential traffic delays on various roads over the weekend.

In a traffic advisory released on Friday, May 30, Mater Hospital alerted drivers to expect disruptions due to the upcoming Mater Heart Run 2025.

The event is set for Saturday, beginning at 7 am and concluding around 11 am.

In Nairobi, the run will commence at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).

Hospital has informed the public that traffic on seven roads will be partially disrupted to ensure the safety of event participants.

The affected roads are City Hall Way, Uhuru Highway, Haile Selassie Avenue, Ragati Road (Upperhill), Elgon Road, Bunyala Road, and Parliament Road.

"Traffic police will be stationed at key junctions and roundabouts along the affected roads to help manage smooth traffic flow. Motorists are encouraged to take alternative routes during the event to minimize disruptions," the advisory states.

Traffic disruptions are also expected on roads in Mombasa, Kericho, Nakuru, Nyeri, Bomet, Kisumu, Kakamega, Machakos, and Uasin Gishu.

The runs will begin simultaneously at these locations: Loreto Convent Mombasa, Kericho Teachers’ College, Nakuru Athletics Club, Dedan Kimathi University of Technology, St. Mary’s Day & Boarding Primary School, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Sports Ground, Bishop Sulumeti Girls, The Machakos School, and Moi Girls’ Eldoret.

The Mater Heart Run, launched in 2002, serves as a key fundraiser for the Mater Cardiac program. Initially held only in Nairobi, it has expanded over the years to include ten counties.

This temporary traffic disruption nationwide follows the Kenya National Highways Authority’s (KeNHA) recent announcement of a more than three-month traffic interruption on Mombasa Road.

KeNHA announced on Wednesday, April 16, that traffic disruption will affect the Mombasa-bound lanes near Katani Road Junction starting Saturday, April 19, 2025, at 10:00 PM.

The disruption is expected to last 92 days, concluding on Sunday, July 20, 2025, at 6:00 AM.

This closure is necessary to allow for the installation of fabricated footbridge beams at the busy junction, aimed at improving pedestrian safety and movement in the long run.

“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) wishes to inform the public that a section of Mombasa Road (A8) near Katani Road Junction will experience traffic disruption along the Mombasa-bound lanes,” the authority stated.

The disruption period is from Saturday, April 19, 2025, at 10:00 PM to Sunday, July 20, 2025, at 6:00 AM.

KeNHA has released a traffic management plan outlining diversions and lane closures affecting vehicles heading towards Mombasa.

Motorists are urged to follow the designated detours and cooperate with police and traffic marshals on site to minimize delays and confusion.
