A dramatic CCTV video showing a heated confrontation between a civilian and a police officer at a petrol station has gone viral online.

The nighttime clip, recorded at an unknown location and date, shows a man refueling his vehicle when a sudden clash erupts between him and an armed officer.

What starts as a tense verbal exchange quickly intensifies, with both men gesturing aggressively.

A third individual approaches, seemingly trying to calm things down before the scene escalates further.

Despite the intervention, the officer visibly agitated waves his arms in frustration and moves in to strike the man with an open-handed slap.

That moment proves to be the spark. The civilian, abandoning the fuel nozzle, squares up with the stance of a seasoned fighter and launches a flurry of punches at the officer.

In a flurry of swift, well-aimed punches, the civilian unleashes a fierce attack, landing precise left-right combinations with surprising force.

The officer, clearly unprepared for the sudden onslaught, is knocked to the ground. His rifle is seen flying several metres away during the scuffle as he struggles in vain to restrain the furious man.

The scene quickly descends into chaos. Three other officers dash to the scene, attempting to rescue their fallen colleague, who clings desperately to his attacker’s shirt while sprawled helplessly on the tarmac.

Soon after, a police Land Rover arrives, its rear doors flung open as more than five uniformed officers storm out.

They overpower the man and shove him into the vehicle, while shocked onlookers including those in the car being refueled watch in disbelief.

The clip has since spread rapidly online, igniting intense public debate around the behaviour of both the police officer and the civilian.

It has revived discussions on law enforcement conduct, public accountability, and the boundaries of self-defence.

One user, @jessykigen, commented, "We should never lay hands on police, but they can lay on us? What a flawed norm. Police are supposed to protect, not provoke. I’m with the civilian — those combos were elite."

@Pesa_ber added, "No matter how frustrated you are, never raise your hands at an officer!"

Meanwhile, @Analokarani posted, "He’ll learn the hard way… that was reckless. You just don’t do that to the police. He’ll regret it."
