Government deploys special team to end gang terror in Embu

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, who visited the town on Friday evening, assured residents that the government has responded to their cries and is determined to restore safety.
The government has deployed a special security team to Embu town to deal with criminal gangs that have been terrorising residents and disrupting businesses.
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, who visited the town on Friday evening, assured residents that the government has responded to their cries and is determined to restore safety.
"A special team has been deployed here to flush out the criminals who have terrorised the residents the last few weeks. I want to assure them that their days are numbered," he said.
Kindiki said he had held discussions with the Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and the Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, following complaints from residents about rising insecurity.
He revealed that the Quick Response Team is already on the ground and has been given firm instructions to deal with the gangs.
“The Quick Response Team (QRT) is already here in Embu and is under instructions to deal firmly with the criminals,” he said.
Kindiki asked the residents to cooperate with the officers during the operation and urged those involved in crime to surrender before they are arrested.
"We cannot allow any gang to take over the town. It is not acceptable for these criminals to take the law into their hands,” he added.
He also announced the reinstatement of Town Chief Jackson Kamau, who had previously been removed from his position.
At the same time, the Deputy President warned national administration officers against politicising their work, saying any officer found engaging in politics will face action.
"We will not allow any civil servant to take political sides in serving the people. As an administration, we will never misuse the administrators for political gain. That will not happen because it will be injurious to non-partisan service delivery," he warned.
The deployment follows a protest by the Embu business community on Wednesday over rising insecurity and a string of robberies that have affected the town in recent days.
In less than a week, close to ten business premises have been broken into and looted.
The most recent incident happened on Tuesday night, when thieves broke into a mobile phone and accessories shop and made away with assorted phones, leaving the owner with huge losses.
