Police in Nakuru have taken a man named Zachariah Wanjohi into custody following the discovery of his wife’s decomposed body, days after she was reported missing.

The victim, 23-year-old Hannah Waithera, worked as an M-Pesa agent within Nakuru’s central business district. She vanished the previous Wednesday after stepping out to deposit over Sh250,000 at a nearby bank.

When she failed to return, her worried family filed a missing person report at Nakuru Central Police Station.

Her body was found about a week later, triggering a murder investigation that led to the arrest of her husband as a key suspect.

The case took a dramatic turn on Wednesday afternoon when police at Kaptembwa Station in Nakuru West called in Zachariah Wanjohi’s family.

Officers confirmed that a decomposed body found two days earlier at Technology Farm had been positively identified as that of Hannah Waithera.

Waithera’s phone was last tracked to the Kijabe area on the day she went missing, raising further questions about her movements.

Before his arrest, Wanjohi had spoken to the media, claiming he had tried to reach his wife when she didn’t return home.

"I called her but she didn’t answer. I went to her shop and was told she had left around 1 p.m. and hadn’t come back. I started searching for her and even asked a police officer friend to trace her number. My mother said she hadn’t seen her either," he said.

Waithera’s family says the situation escalated days after her disappearance, when police allegedly raided their home.

"They stormed in and harassed us. We had just given our statements and hadn’t even reached home when they arrived," said her
