Data Commissioner Immaculate Kassait said the initiative is intended to evaluate how organizations handle personal data and to offer guidance on meeting their legal responsibilities.

The Office of the Data Protection Commissioner has announced the launch of nationwide inspections across the education, hospitality, and property management sectors to ensure adherence to data protection regulations.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, June 3, Data Commissioner Immaculate Kassait said the initiative is intended to evaluate how organizations handle personal data and to offer guidance on meeting their legal responsibilities.

“This goes beyond merely following the law; it’s about demonstrating a shared commitment to protecting the fundamental right to privacy,” said Kassait.

She emphasized that the inspections are not meant to be punitive, but rather a collaborative initiative aimed at strengthening data protection practices and fostering public trust.

Kassait also warned that data breaches can lead to significant financial losses, legal consequences, and damage to an organization’s reputation.
